Shahi Daal Recipe

Lentil Soup

Shahi Daal Masala Mix (lentil soup), hot and flavorsome Indian style soup

Serves: 6-8 People

Ready in: 25 Minutes

Skill level: Moderate



  • Daal Masoor 1 ½ cup (200-250g)
  • Tamarind 3 tbsp
  • Onions (sliced) 1 (medium size)
  • Green Chillies (whole) 4
  • Curry leaves A few leaves
  • Regal’s Shahi Daal Masala Mix 2 tbsp (heaped)

For Tarka (sizzle)

  • Red Chillies (Whole) 4
  • Cumin seed (Whole) ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves 4-6
  • Oil/Ghee ½ cup

Cooking Method

1. Soak tamarind in 1½ cups of warm water for 15-20 minutes. Drain out the juice. Keep aside.

2. Wash daal and boil it with onions in 2½ cups of water.

3. When daal is tender, add Regal’s Shahi Daal Masala Mix and blend thoroughly with a wooden spoon or in a blender.

4. Add tamarind juice, curry leaves and green chillies and cook until green chillies are tender.

For Tarka (sizzle)

Heat oil/ghee and fry all the tarka ingredients until reddish brown. Then pour onto daal.


Delicious Shahi Daal is ready. Serve with mixed pickle.
