Is Himalayan Salt Good For you?

Himalayan salt is rich in essential minerals that are considered vital for our overall health and wellbeing. It is considered to be the purest salt in the world and is naturally pink in colour. It is believed that Himalayan salt has numerous different health benefits, with claims that it is loaded with minerals. 


For these reasons, Himalayan salt is thought to be much healthier than regular salt and can help to maintain pH balance, aid restful sleep and fight infections. It is said that Himalayan salt can even help your skin to retain water and make you appear more youthful. But, is Himalayan salt good for you, and what are the benefits? 


Why Is Salt Important? 

Salt is a mineral that largely consists of the compound sodium chloride. Before it reaches your kitchen table, salt goes through a refining process that removes any impurities or other minerals besides sodium chloride. Humans have used salt to flavour and preserve foods for thousands of years, but salt also plays a hugely important role in several bodily and biological functions. 


This includes nerve conduction, fluid balance and muscle contraction and, for these reasons, it is absolutely essential to include salt in your diet. Due to the potential dangers of consuming too much salt as part of your diet, Himalayan salt is believed to be the healthier alternative, but is Himalayan salt good for you? 


What Is Himalayan Salt?

Himalayan salt is a pink-coloured salt that comes from salt mines located near the Himalayas in Pakistan. Himalayan salt from here is believed to have been formed millions of years ago, from the evaporation of bodies of water. This salt is extracted by hand and uses a minimal process which then creates salt which is free from additives and is believed to be more natural than table salt. There are around 84 different minerals and elements in Himalayan salt and it is these minerals that give it its pink colour. 


How Is Himalayan Salt Used? 

Himalayan salt has many different uses, both dietary and non-dietary:


You Can Eat It and Cook With It

You can cook with Himalayan salt the same way you would with regular table salt. You can use it for sauces and marinades, or add it to your food. Some people use Himalayan salt as a cooking surface and large blocks of the salt can be used to grill or sear salty flavours to meats and other foods. Non-Dietary Uses

Whilst it is believed that Himalayan salt is good for you and has several dietary benefits and uses, there are also a number of other non-dietary uses for it too! Himalayan salt is used in some bath salts, as there are claims which say that Himalayan salt can improve skin conditions and relieve and soothe sore, aching muscles. Himalayan salt lamps are also hugely popular and they are believed to remove air pollutants. 


Is Himalayan Salt Good For You?

Whilst the benefits of Himalayan salt is still being disputed, it is widely accepted that Himalayan salt is good for you and has many benefits due to the purity of the products. Himalayan salt is a great alternative to table salt as it is less refined and can enhance the flavours and tastes of certain foods.
